
Producer Prices Take a Dive in March
According to a preliminary report by Eurostat released on Tuesday, the producer price index (PPI) experienced a 1.6% decline in both the Eurozone and the European Union in March compared to the previous month. Annually, the figures showed a 1.9% increase in the euro area and a 2.1% rise in the EU.
Sector-wise Analysis in the Eurozone
The most significant monthly decrease was observed in energy prices, which fell by 5.8%. Conversely, prices for capital goods saw a modest 0.1% increase, durable consumer goods 0.2%, and non-durable consumer goods 0.5%, with intermediate goods remaining stable.
EU's Producer Price Trends
In the EU, energy prices also led the downturn with a 5.5% drop. Prices for intermediate goods and durable consumer goods inched up by 0.1%, while non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.5%. Capital goods prices remained unchanged.
