Retail Sales Dip in Italy
According to the latest report from the National Statistics Institute, Italy experienced a 0.5% decrease in retail sales in March compared to the previous month, with an annual decline of 2.8%.
Food and Non-Food Sales Decline
The report detailed a 0.4% drop in food sales and a 0.3% decrease in non-food goods. Yearly comparisons show a more significant reduction, with food goods down by 4.2% and non-food goods by 2.1%.
Impact of Easter Timing
"The decrease in retail sales in March 2025, both in value and volume, was observed across all product sectors. The annual drop was more pronounced, especially in the food sector, attributed partly to the timing of Easter, which occurred in April this year compared to late March last year," the report explained.
