UK Construction Sector Sees Slight Recovery in April
The United Kingdom's construction sector experienced a modest rebound in April, as reported by S&P Global on Wednesday. The construction Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) edged up from 46.4 in March to 46.6 in April, indicating a gradual improvement in activity levels.
Civil Engineering Struggles
Despite the overall improvement, civil engineering remained the sector's weak link, with a PMI of just 43.1. Residential construction showed slightly better performance at 47.1, while commercial building lagged slightly behind at 45.5.
Expert Insight
"April saw continued declines in output levels, albeit at the slowest pace in three months. This slowdown in the rate of decline was supported by milder reductions in residential building and civil engineering activities," noted Tim Moore, Economics Director at S&P Global Market Intelligence.
