Breaking Export Records with Influencer Power
The Thai Ministry of Commerce is set to make history by partnering with Taiyuan Lao Ge, a Chinese influencer boasting over 93 million followers on Kuaishou, to live-sell Thai durians and other fruits to China. This ambitious initiative aims to surpass previous records in both volume and value of fruit exports.
A Strategic Move During Peak Harvest
Scheduled for May 11 and 12, the live-selling broadcast will not only feature durians but also mangoes, longans, mangosteens, and other seasonal Thai fruits. This strategy comes at a time when Thailand is experiencing a surge in high-quality produce, making it the perfect opportunity to boost exports.
China: The Prime Market for Thai Durians
With China accounting for 98% of Thailand’s durian exports last year, valued at approximately $4 billion, the Thai government is keen on ensuring smooth trade. Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan is in talks with Chinese officials to relax inspection protocols and streamline border clearance processes, especially during this peak production period.
Round-the-Clock Operations to Facilitate Trade
In a significant development, China customs have agreed to operate 24/7 to accommodate the influx of Thai durian imports. This move is expected to significantly ease the export process, ensuring that Thai fruits reach Chinese consumers in the freshest condition possible.
