Vietnam's Lychee Production Soars by 30% This Year: A Story of Weather, Strategy, and Global Demand

Favorable Weather and Disease Control Boost Production

This year, Vietnam's lychee output is set to increase by 30%, thanks to favorable weather conditions and effective disease control measures. The northern province of Bac Giang leads with 165,000 tonnes, followed by Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Lang Son, and Dak Lak.

Harvest and Export Preparations in Full Swing

The harvest is divided into two phases: early-ripen fruits from May 20 to June 10 and the main crop from June 10 to July 25. Early preparations are crucial for proper harvest, processing, and consumption. Over 469 production unit codes and 55 packaging facility codes have been issued to meet export demands to markets like China, Australia, and the U.S.

Japan's New Authorization Eases Export Process

Starting this year, Japan has authorized Vietnam to supervise lychee shipments, reducing time and costs. Quarantine and food safety testing laboratories are ready, with officers stationed from June 1 until the season's end.

Domestic and International Markets Ready for Lychee

About 60% of the lychee will be consumed domestically, with the rest exported. Despite reaching over 20 countries, 90% of exports go to China.
