Key US-India Trade Talks Led by Piyush Goyal
Union minister Piyush Goyal is set to lead a high-level delegation to Washington from May 17 to 20, aiming to advance the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between India and the United States.

Focus on Early Wins and Sector-Specific Discussions
During the visit, discussions with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and commerce secretary Howard Lutnick will focus on securing early mutual wins, with an interim trade deal on goods targeted before finalizing the broader agreement by September–October this year.
Addressing Tariffs and Non-Tariff Barriers
Key issues include market access, rules of origin, and non-tariff barriers, alongside India's proposed retaliatory duties on select US products in response to American tariffs on steel and aluminium.
Strengthening Bilateral Trade Relations
With bilateral trade reaching $129 billion in 2024 and India maintaining a trade surplus of $45.7 billion with the US, both nations are keen on boosting trade to $500 billion by 2030.
