The United Kingdom's gross domestic product (GDP) experienced a notable increase of 0.7% in the first quarter of 2025, as reported by the Office for National Statistics on Thursday. This growth slightly surpassed the forecasts of financial analysts, marking a positive start to the year.
Sector-Wise Performance Highlights
During the January to March period, the services sector led the charge with a 0.7% growth quarter on quarter. The production sector also showed resilience with a 1.1% increase, while the construction sector remained stagnant, showing no growth.
Yearly Comparison Shows Steady Growth
Compared to the same period in 2024, the UK's economy expanded by 1.2%. Annually, the services sector was the standout performer with a 1.5% increase. However, the production sector faced a slight decline of 0.2%, and the construction sector saw a modest rise of 0.9%.
