US Dollar Hits 3-Week Low Against Vietnamese Dong Amid Global Currency Fluctuations

Dollar's Decline Against the Dong

Vietcombank reported a slight decrease in the dollar's value, selling it 0.04% lower at VND26,120. This adjustment comes as the State Bank of Vietnam reduced its reference rate by 0.01% to VND24,970.

Black Market and Global Impact

On the black market, the dollar remained steady at VND26,500. Since the beginning of the year, the dollar has appreciated by 2.22% against the dong. Globally, the dollar experienced a drop, influenced by a U.S.-China tariff truce and speculation about Washington's stance on a weaker dollar.

Emerging Markets and the Dollar Index

The South Korean won saw a significant rise, increasing by 0.8% against the dollar. Despite being the worst performer among emerging Asian currencies last year, the won has shown a strong recovery this year. The dollar index, measuring the U.S. unit against six other currencies, was slightly lower but maintained a trend of weekly gains.

Experts suggest that discussions between the U.S. and South Korea on currency matters, along with potential U.S. tolerance for a weaker dollar, have positively affected the won's performance. However, uncertainties surrounding domestic outlooks and trade tensions may limit the won's short-term growth.
