Aviation Safety Under Review Following Air India Crash
Following the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad that claimed around 270 lives on June 12, India’s aviation safety measures are under intense scrutiny. Parliamentary committees are urgently reviewing the incident to address lapses and ensure accountability.

Key committees, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, are engaging with aviation stakeholders this week. A full-day session is scheduled to deliberate on safety and infrastructure issues, involving top officials from the civil aviation ministry, DGCA, AAI, and major airlines.
Concerns Over Black Box Analysis and Fare Surge
The PAC has raised concerns about delays in the black box analysis from the crash. Additionally, the recent surge in airfares to Srinagar following the Pahalgam terror attack in April was discussed, highlighting the need for regulatory oversight.
Infrastructure and Regulatory Reforms Needed
Experts warn that India’s rapidly growing aviation sector, handling over 400 million passengers annually, suffers from aging infrastructure and inadequate safety oversight. The government has pledged significant investments for upgrades, but regulatory reforms are deemed essential to match this growth.
