Manipal Hospitals Announces Major Acquisition

In a significant move to bolster its presence in the healthcare sector, Manipal Hospitals has signed definitive agreements to acquire Sahyadri Hospitals from the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (Ontario Teachers'), a global investment powerhouse.

Expanding Healthcare Horizons

This acquisition is set to increase Manipal's total bed count to approximately 12,000, positioning it as one of India's largest hospital networks. While the financial intricacies of the deal remain under wraps, industry insiders speculate the transaction to be around Rs 6,000 crore.

Strategic Growth in Western India

The inclusion of Pune-based Sahyadri Hospitals, with its 11 facilities across Pune, Nashik, Ahilya Nagar, and Karad, will expand Manipal's network to a total of 49 hospitals. This strategic acquisition underscores Manipal's commitment to enhancing its pan-India footprint and making quality healthcare more accessible.

Ontario Teachers' Role in Sahyadri's Journey

Ontario Teachers', managing net assets worth $194 billion as of December 31, 2024, initially acquired a majority stake in Sahyadri in 2022. Under its stewardship, Sahyadri has seen substantial growth through strategic mergers and acquisitions.
