Italy's industrial sector experienced a noticeable downturn in May, with production decreasing by 0.7% compared to April, as reported by Istat, the national statistical agency. This decline not only reflects a month-on-month reduction but also shows a 0.9% drop from the previous year, despite a slight quarterly increase of 0.6%.

Month on month: The production of non-durable consumer goods saw a minor decrease of 0.1%, while durable and intermediate goods remained stable. However, capital consumer goods and energy sectors faced more significant declines, dropping by 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively.
Annual comparison: The production levels of non-durable consumer goods, durable, and intermediate goods showed no change from the previous year. In contrast, capital consumer goods and energy sectors reported decreases of 0.4% and 0.8%, respectively.
