German Trade Leader Slams Trump's Tariff Decision
Dirk Jandura, head of Germany's Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (BGA), has openly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's recent decision to impose a 30% tariff on the European Union. Jandura highlighted the detrimental effects of these tariffs on the global economy, including disrupted supply chains and collapsing demand.
Call for European Independence
Jandura warned that such measures by Washington are not only harming the U.S. economy and its citizens but also urged Europe to strive for long-term independence from the U.S. market. He emphasized the need for swift action in securing trade agreements with ASEAN and MERCOSUR to mitigate the impact.
EU's Response to Tariffs
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed that the EU is actively working towards a trade deal with the U.S. ahead of the August 1 deadline, aiming to address the ongoing trade tensions and foster a more stable economic relationship.
