Eurozone Construction Output Declines in May

According to the latest report from Eurostat, the European Commission's statistical office, the Eurozone experienced a 1.7% monthly decline in construction output in May. This downturn reflects broader economic challenges within the region.

EU-Wide Construction Trends

Across the European Union, construction production decreased by 1.3% in the same period. However, on a year-on-year basis, the sector showed resilience with increases of 2.9% in the Eurozone and 2.7% in the EU.

Sector-Specific Performance

Specialised construction activities in the euro area saw a 1.7% drop from the previous month, while the construction of buildings and civil engineering fell by 1.3% and 0.7%, respectively. Annually, the construction of buildings surged by 6.4%, with civil engineering and specialised construction activities also posting gains.
