Cambodia Makes History with First Direct Fresh Durian Export to China's Lucrative Market

Historic First Shipment

Cambodia has achieved a significant milestone by sending its first batch of fresh durians directly to China. The shipment, weighing over 17 tons, was dispatched from Sihanoukville Autonomous Port to Shenzhen, marking a pivotal moment in Cambodia's agricultural export sector.

Quality and Collaboration: This success was made possible through rigorous inspection and quality certification processes, alongside fruitful cooperation between the Cambodian and Chinese governments and private sectors.

Expanding Agricultural Exports

Durian becomes the fifth Cambodian fresh fruit to enter the Chinese market directly, following bananas, mangoes, longans, and coconuts. This move is expected to open new avenues for Cambodian farmers and exporters.

Future Plans: HF Fruit Company Limited, in collaboration with a Chinese partner, spearheaded this inaugural shipment. The company plans to continue sourcing durians from local growers, offering competitive prices based on quality and market rates.

China's Growing Appetite for Durians

China stands as the world's largest durian consumer, with imports worth $6.99 billion in 2024. Cambodia's entry into this market is set to diversify China's durian sources beyond Thailand and Vietnam.

Cambodia's Durian Production: With over 11,000 hectares dedicated to durian cultivation and an annual production of 120,000 tons, Cambodia is poised to become a key player in the global durian market.
