Vietnamese Housing Developer Sentenced to Life for Scamming Over 1,000 with Fake Real Estate Projects

Life Sentence for Massive Real Estate Fraud

The Long An Province People’s Court has concluded the high-profile trial of Nguyen Thi Cam Hong, 54, sentencing her to life imprisonment for defrauding more than 1,000 individuals through nonexistent housing projects. Her accomplices, including her younger sister and husband, received significant sentences for their roles in the scam.

The Scheme Unfolded

Hong established Thien Phuc Real Estate Investment Jsc in 2015, leveraging fictitious project details to lure unsuspecting buyers. Despite lacking the necessary development licenses, she divided lands into plots and sold them, even fabricating claims of a "second phase" development to further deceive victims.

Legal Repercussions and Ongoing Investigations

After complaints from victims who paid but never received their plots, a criminal investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of Hong and her husband. The court also highlighted potential money laundering and negligence by officials, ordering separate investigations into these matters.
