Germany's Inflation Rate Shows Slight Decrease in July
The annual inflation rate in Germany has slightly decreased to 2% in July, aligning with preliminary predictions and analyst expectations. This revelation comes from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) in its final report released on Wednesday. On a month-on-month basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced a modest increase of 0.3%.
Key Drivers Behind the Inflation Rate
The decline in the inflation rate was primarily influenced by a 3.4% contraction in energy prices compared to the same month last year. In contrast, food prices saw an annual rise of 2.2%. The core inflation rate, which excludes the volatile food and energy sectors, rose by 2.7%.
Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) Trends
Additionally, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) showed a year-on-year growth of 1.8% and a month-on-month increase of 0.4%, indicating a steady but slow pace of inflation in the German economy.
