April Sees a Slight Decline in Germany's Inflation Rate

The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) released its preliminary report on Wednesday, showing that Germany's annual inflation rate edged down to 2.1% in April from 2.2% in March. This slight decrease was accompanied by a 0.4% rise in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on a month-on-month basis.

Core Inflation and Sector-Specific Trends

Excluding the volatile categories of food and energy, the core inflation rate was recorded at 2.9%. Notably, food prices saw a year-on-year increase of 2.8%, whereas energy prices experienced a significant drop of 5.4%.

Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) Insights

The HICP, another key measure of inflation, showed a 2.2% increase annually and a 0.5% rise from the previous month.
