Eurozone Retail Sales Dip Slightly in March Amid Mixed Sector Performances

In a recent report by Eurostat, it was revealed that retail trade in both the Eurozone and the European Union experienced a slight decline of 0.1% in March compared to the previous month. However, when compared to the same period last year, the Eurozone saw a 1.5% increase in retail trade, with the EU recording a slightly lower growth of 1.4%.

Sector-Specific Performance

The month of March witnessed varied performances across different sectors. Sales volumes for food, drinks, and tobacco decreased by 0.1% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU. On the other hand, non-food products saw a 0.1% decrease in sales within the Eurozone, while the EU experienced a marginal increase of 0.1%. Notably, retail sales for automotive fuel in specialized stores rose by 0.4% in both regions.
