UK Construction Activity Edges Up in April

The United Kingdom's construction sector experienced a modest recovery in April, as reported by S&P Global on Wednesday. The construction Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) saw a slight rise from 46.4 in March to 46.6 in April, indicating a gradual improvement in the sector's performance.

Sector Performance Highlights

Civil engineering remained the sector's weakest link, with a PMI of 43.1. Meanwhile, residential construction activity showed a bit more resilience, recording a PMI of 47.1, followed closely by commercial building at 45.5.

"Output levels continued to decline in April, but the pace of decrease slowed to its lowest in three months. This improvement was partly due to slower reductions in residential building work and civil engineering activity," explained Tim Moore, Economics Director at S&P Global Market Intelligence.
