UK Construction Sector Sees Marginal Improvement in April

The United Kingdom's construction sector experienced a slight upturn in April, as reported by S&P Global. The construction Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) edged up from 46.4 in March to 46.6 in April, indicating a modest recovery.

Sector Performance Highlights

Civil engineering remained the weakest sector with a PMI of 43.1. Residential construction showed a slight improvement at 47.1, while commercial building lagged slightly behind at 45.5.

"Output levels continued to slide in April, but the rate of decline eased to its slowest for three months. This was helped by slower reductions in residential building work and civil engineering activity," commented Tim Moore, Economics Director at S&P Global Market Intelligence.
