Exclusive: Mexico Engages in Urgent Trade Talks with US Amid New Tariff Threats

Trade Negotiations Underway

In a recent development, Mexico's Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard revealed that formal trade discussions with the United States are currently in progress. This announcement comes in the wake of President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 30% tariff on Mexican goods, a move that has sparked immediate reactions from Mexican officials.

Mexican Response to Tariffs

According to Ebrard, the Mexican delegation was informed of the impending tariffs during a meeting with US officials on Friday. The tariffs are set to take effect by August 1, a deadline that has prompted urgent negotiations. "We made it clear that we view this as an unfair deal and do not agree with it," Ebrard stated, highlighting Mexico's stance on the issue.

Path to Resolution

Despite the tensions, Ebrard remains optimistic about finding a resolution before the deadline. "Since July 11, we have established a pathway and space to address any potential implementation of new tariffs by August 1," he assured, indicating that negotiations are already underway to prevent the tariffs from affecting bilateral trade.
