Decline in Consumer Confidence

Japan's seasonally adjusted Consumer Confidence Index saw a decrease in July, dropping by 0.8 points to settle at 33.7, as reported by the country's Cabinet Office on Thursday.

Key Components Affected

The index reflecting overall livelihood experienced a 1.0 point decline to 31.4. Similarly, the employment component decreased by 0.7 points to 37.6, and the income growth index fell by 0.4 points to 38.5. A notable decrease was observed in consumers' willingness to purchase durable goods, which dropped by 0.8 points to 27.4.

Inflation Expectations

Regarding inflation, there was a slight increase of 0.3 percentage points in the number of respondents expecting prices to rise over the next year. However, the proportion of those anticipating prices to remain stable or decrease stayed unchanged from June.
