Sharp Decline in UK Construction Activity
The United Kingdom's construction sector experienced its most significant downturn since May 2020, according to a recent report by S&P Global. The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) plummeted from 48.8 in June to a concerning 44.3 in July.

Underlying Causes of the Downturn
Companies surveyed pointed to several factors contributing to the decline, including delays on construction sites, a reduction in new business volumes, diminished customer confidence, and a decrease in public sector projects.
Preparing for Tough Times Ahead
"Forward-looking indicators from the survey suggest that UK constructors are bracing for more challenging times. There's a noticeable trend of purchasing fewer materials and reducing workforce numbers," noted Joe Hayes, Principal Economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence.
