Vietnam's Durian Exports Experience Remarkable Growth

Ensuring Quality for Global Markets

Huynh Tan Dat, Director of the Plant Production and Protection Department, highlighted plans to develop a cadmium contamination map for durian-growing areas. This initiative aims to ensure food safety, meet import market standards, and sustain the export growth momentum.

Expanding Horizons

Vietnam is not just aiming to maintain its presence in China but also to penetrate premium markets like the U.S., E.U., Japan, and the Republic of Korea. Digitizing and integrating all findings into the plantation area management system will facilitate easy access to information for authorities, businesses, and farmers, enabling proactive risk prevention.

Strategic Focus Areas

The initial focus will be on surveying major durian-growing areas, with particular attention to regions like the Mekong Delta. The department plans to employ soil improvement models, including the use of organic fertilizers and biological products, to reduce heavy metal content and enhance durian quality.
