Builder Confidence Drops in August
According to the latest National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI), builder confidence in the U.S. for newly built single-family homes slightly decreased to 32 points in August, down from July's revised figure of 33 points.
Continuous Negative Sentiment
With the HMI reading below 50, indicating more builders see conditions as poor rather than good, this marks the 16th consecutive month of negative sentiment. Since May, the index has lingered between 32 and 34 points.
Challenges Affecting Builder Confidence
Elevated mortgage rates, weak buyer traffic, and ongoing supply-side challenges have been cited as the primary factors dragging down builder confidence in August, as per the report.
